5 Stars for Jet Boss

I met some amazing authors at the 35th Annual Pennwriters Conference this past May (more about that full experience in a future post). This was Pennwriters’ first in-person conference since the pandemic and the first year I felt compelled to buy two books at the authors’ tables.

The first book was Jet Boss (pictured above) by Laura Savino, which I’ll rave about in a sec.

The second came from another author who also had a solid pitch for her book; enough that I wanted to read it. Sadly, I can’t review that one because I refuse to give a less than stellar review of anyone’s “baby.”

We all love our literary creations, but sometimes we book “parents” need extra feedback before sending our “children” out into the world.

It isn’t easy to write a book and anyone who does deserves a hearty pat on the back. When an author earns a five-star rating, it’s all the more exciting. To my reader’s eyes, author, Laura Savino has earned that honor and then some. I can’t stop talking about her book to my coworkers, and here’s why.

I work at a technical high school and Savino has an important message for students who often worry so much about failing that they stop trying. Jet Boss is the perfect lesson on how to never give up on your dream. Despite roadblocks, setbacks, and metaphorical brick walls, Savino not only followed her dream, she attained it, becoming a captain for a commercial airline.

I admire her drive and passion and how nothing stopped her from reaching that goal. I also admire how well-written her book is. A story like hers in the hands of a so-so writer would have still been a fascinating read, but Savino took her story to awesome heights. She doesn’t just bring you into the cockpit, she provides suspense and thrills that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat till the last page.

My full review is on Goodreads, but I’ll add this comment: “Wow! Wow! Wow!”

Too much? Well, it shouldn’t be. Every author should aspire to write the type of book that will make a reader cry out, “Wow! Wow! Wow!”

Laura and Aud at the Pennwriters Conference 2022 with a shout-out to my LINK friends!

Savino set a high bar that I hope to reach someday.

In the meantime, to my fellow writers, readers, and dreamers: Let’s follow Laura’s lead and shoot for the stars!
